It is crucial to start every shingle roofing project with specially designed starter strip.  Starter strip is a specially made strip of shingle that goes beneath the first course of shingles.  Starter shingles are extremely important as they help protect your home from wind uplift.  Starter strip is seal-sealing and will help stop the "domino effect" from happening to your roof.  The "domino effect" is very prevalent in high wind areas such as Southwest Florida.  When there are high winds, the first layer of shingles will blow up pulling the second layer and the third and so on up the roof.  Starter strip prevents this from happening as it is sealed securely to the perimeter of the roof.  Other roofing companies simply cut regular shingles to use as the first course.  The 25 year 3-tab shingles that are used by other roofing companies will not seal to the first course of shingles, leaving your roof vulnerable to the "domino effect".
