Here at Kelly Roofing, we are constantly keeping our eye out on the newest in roofing technology. We want to be able to provide our customers with the absolute best roofing options available. It’s one of the reasons why we offer Duro-Last roofing.
Duro-Last Roofing has a great reputation as a sustainable roofing option and we know how important sustainability is to our environmentally aware customers. Well, we’re pleased to announce that not only is Duro-Last roofing sustainable, it recently reached the highest sustainability ranking in the industry!
It wasn’t long ago that roofing materials advertised as being “sustainable” weren’t quantified. To determine sustainability, a roof had to focus on the recyclability of raw materials, energy savings, and/or VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). While these are all important to building a sustainable roof, there was no objective composite score that allowed building owners to compare the sustainability of different roof systems. That has recently changed.
The NSF/ANSI 347 is a new sustainability standard that was developed by major standards organizations as well as roofing industry stakeholders, including architects, engineers, manufacturers, roofing consultants, and non-government organizations. The new standard rates the sustainability of a roof based on five factors: product design, product manufacturing, membrane durability, corporate governance, and innovation.
These factors carry different weights and are each scored differently (for example, 42 points are available for product design, while only seven points are available for innovation). The highest score available is 123 points. There are four levels of third-party verified certification available, including (from lowest to highest) conformant, silver, gold, and platinum. Duro-Last roofing managed to earn a platinum certification by doing the following:
- Conserving water and energy
- Protecting clean air
- Reducing material wastes by recycling and reusing
- Implementing several quality control measures, including post inspections
- Using an informed selection of suppliers
- The use of minimal chemicals in production
- The demonstration of durability in the field
- Investment of capital towards renewable energy at its manufacturing plant
If you’re looking for a sustainable roofing system, we can’t recommend Duro-Last roofing enough. Not only is it one of the most sustainable roofing systems available, but it’s also a durable, long-lasting roof that will do its job protecting your building.
